One of the new features for the 2014 Ford Fusion is the inclusion of a new engine option. A turbocharged 1.5L four-cylinder engine comes as an option starting with the SE trim level and should be one of the more popular options buyers choose. Paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, it puts out 178 horsepower and returns an EPA-estimated 23 miles per gallon city and 36 mpg highway. It also features an engine start/stop function much like hybrids that help increase fuel economy.
Otherwise, the 2014 Ford Fusion comes standard with a 2.5L four-cylinder engine that produces 175 horsepower and achieves 22 mpg city and 34 mpg highway. There is also a turbocharged 1.6L four-cylinder that returns power and economy similar to the new 1.5L option. The top engine in the lineup is a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder that powers the Fusion with 240 horsepower. With this engine, the Fusion tops out 0-60 in just 6.9 seconds, pretty impressive considering it still achieves fuel economy of 22 mpg city and 33 mpg highway.

Standard & Available Features
The 2014 Ford Fusion comes in S, SE, and Titanium trim levels. The S package
comes standard with 16-inch steel wheels, automatic headlights, full power
accessories, an integrated blind-spot mirror, keyless entry, SYNC
voice-activated entertainment system, and iPod interface.
Upgrading to one of the other trim levels, or selecting certain option packages
brings other available equipment. Available options include:
- Exterior keypad entry
- 17-inch steel wheels
- Foglights
- Leather-wrapped steering wheel
- Leather upholstery
- Heated front seats
- MyFord Touch interactive 8-inch touchscreen
- Rear parking sensors
Much of the negativity directed at the Fusion are the same complaints many have had with the recent vehicles coming off the Ford factory lines. The MyFord Touch can have a steep learning curve, further complicated by the glitches and bugs that plague the system. It is a great idea in theory, it just needs a bit more polish. Future firmware updates to the system may improve functionality.
Overall, it is hard to find serious negatives with the 2014 Ford Fusion. All of the engine options offer a good balance of performance and fuel economy, with clear choices for drivers who edge towards one or the other. Handling and steering response are both above average for this class. The Fusion also supplies a surprisingly quiet ride.Â
