The new 2014 Ford F-150 is packed with a lot of new and exciting features, but none more important than the safety features. The Ford F-150 comes with many of the basic safety features you may expect to find in your car, and some innovative ones you may not.
Standard Features
As standard, the Ford F-150 features several air bags to protect you in an accident. Additionally, it boats a four-wheel anti-lock braking system to prevent the wheels from locking up while in motion or if it is uncontrollably skidding on wet or oily surfaces. The built-in traction control also helps reduce tire slips while accelerating.
 Reverse Safety
If reversing into tight or cramped spaces is a problem for you, the rear view camera is ideal. While reversing, a small camera mounted onto the rear tailgate displays your surroundings in full color. Additionally, the 8-inch My Ford Touch LCD touchscreen works as an added feature available on selected models.
Additional Crash Protection
A built-in safety cage provides additional crash protection. Featuring advanced hydro-formed high-strength steel and duel hydro-formed front tubes positioned on both sides of the vehicle's engine bay, the design and build of this cage developed by Ford successfully absorbs the brunt of any impact and protects you.
Personal Safety System
Ford's trademark Personal Safety System is also included as standard with all variants of the F-150. Using an electronic crash severity sensor, a restraint control model on the seat belts and a driver seat positioning sensor ensures that you and the front seat passenger are protected in the event you are involved in an accident.
Stability Control
Cornering and swerving to evade an object will no longer be such a hassle with Ford's Roll Stability Control System. When an on-board sensor detects an object in the direct path of the vehicle, the Roll Stability Control System will automatically engage both of its gyroscopic sensors to measure the vehicles turning roll and the turning rate. It will then selectively choose which individual brakes should be applied. Then it modifies the engines power to ensure that all four wheels stay firmly planted on the road. All of this happens automatically, so you can just let your truck control.
Safety Tests
The Ford F-150 also scored favorably in various safety tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration tested the F-150 in a variety of different ways including side impact crashes and damage caused if the car rolls after an incident.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tested side impact crashes, rear crash protection and the roof strength after a crash has occurred. In each of these categories, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave an overall rating of ''Good,'' which is the highest rating that they can award for vehicle safety.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration tested, among other things, side crash strength and damage caused by the vehicle rolling after a crash. For side strength, it was awarded five stars, the highest possible while damage caused by a roll over was only awarded four stars. Overall, they awarded the F-150 four out of a possible five stars.
