NHTSA and IIHS Ratings

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) are the two organizations that use rigorous testing regimens to determine a vehicle's safety for consumers.

The 2018 Ford Fusion achieved a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating for Driver Frontal Barrier Crash tests, and a 4-Star Overall Safety Rating. It also achieved a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating across all Side Barrier tests and Side Crash tests, as well as Combined Side Barrier and Pole tests. It received a 4-Star Overall Safety Rating for rollover and was determined to have a 10.9 percent chance of rollover, with no tip in its Dynamic testing.

For the IIHS tests, the Fusion received a Good designation, which is the highest mark, for the Side Impact Test, Roof Strength Test, Rear Crash Protection/Head Restraint, Small Overlap Front Test, and Moderate Overlap Front Test.

The testing methods and determination are very different between the NHTSA and the IIHS, but as you can see, the Fusion scored exceptionally well in all categories.

Advanced Safety Features

The Ford Fusion safety ratings come from a host of standard and available safety features. Driver airbag, passenger airbag, rear airbag, side head and rear head airbags, and rear body air bags all protect the driver in a collision. Adjustable pedals, ABS brakes, and brake assist provide for reliable braking, and electronic stability control, auto-on headlights, daytime running lights, and integrated turn signal mirrors increase driver visibility and confidence.

The Fusion also has available night vision, traction control, Blind-Spot, auto-leveling headlights, Lane Departure Warning and Intervention, Front Collision Warning, and a rollover protection system.

As an added level of convenience and protection, Ford also has MyKey®, which includes multiple keysets for secondary drivers, such as children or valets, so there's no chance that someone could access your home through copied keys or garage door openers. In addition, there are child locks and an emergency trunk release.
