There are many nice cars on the market for those who want compact sedans or hatchbacks. These cars have come a long way over the course of the last few years. Most of the offerings available to drivers today feature well-trimmed interiors and features that appeal strongly to commuters. There are two cars in this category that stand out above the rest. These vehicles seek to satisfy people who want to have fun with their driving. They are the 2014 Ford Focus and the 2014 Mazda3.

The Exterior Styling

Both of these cars are offered in five-door hatchback and four-door sedan models, however, they strike very different profiles. The Focus had a rakish physique, while the Mazda3 is curvier. The Ford Focus stands out by offering a little bit more to interest onlookers. The headlamps are long and finely detailed, the flanks are creased, and the tail lamps are stretched. The Mazda3 looks like a more adventurous vehicle on the whole and fills out its package with athletic, sophisticated details.

The Interior Styling

The contrast between the Mazda3 and the Ford Focus becomes even more apparent when drivers look on the inside of the vehicles. The Mazda3 offers a sporty appearance that falls in line with the European, upscale look of many of the recent vehicles from the company. The interior of the Focus is even more overtly sporty and obsessively detailed. It offers a tailored, sculpted look throughout the interior which gives it the appearance of a vehicle in a higher class. However, the interior of the Focus is not perfect- the dash comes out a little far.

The Performance

The Mazda3 and the Ford Focus both offer excellent performance. Both vehicles are sportier than many of the other sedans and hatchbacks on the market. However, the Mazda3 has had more attention paid to the fine details when it was constructed. This attention to every detail makes it the winner of this category. The car offers satisfying results whether drivers opt to get the 2.5-liter engine, the 2.0-liter engine, the manual, or the automatic six-speed transmission. Drivers will be impressed by the responsiveness of the vehicle. The powertrains are a little more responsive and precise than what the Ford Focus offers drivers. Mazda delivers when it comes to the tactile driving experience. These are better coordinated than in any other car in this class of vehicles. The accelerator offers an even espouse and the bakes are confident. This is just a very well put together machine.

The Safety Features

Both of these vehicles are well equipped to handle the worst conditions. However, the Ford Focus comes out on top. It earned top scores in each category when the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety put it to the test. The Focus gives drivers the option for a camera system in the rear, which is more practical than the blind spot warning system of the Mazda3.

Standard Equipment

Both the Mazda3 and the Ford Focus offer great features to any driver who purchases a base model. The Focus has the MyFord Touch, which is a voice activated system that connects with smartphones and media players. This completely outclasses anything found in the Mazda3. The navigation system is also much easier to use. Drivers will love the Park Assist feature which is not found in the Mazda3. The Mazda3 offers a few features, such as memory power seats, but nothing that compares with the Ford Focus.
