2015 Ford F550
The 2015 Ford F-550 is part of a larger line of Chassis Cabs that Ford builds, which also includes the 350 and 450 series. Like the other series, the 550 is available in three primary styles - this review will be focusing on the basic 550 XL model, which has a starting MSRP of $36,480.
Exterior Features
As a work truck, the F-550 has a number of features not found on smaller and weaker vehicles. This cab is big enough that steps have been included as a standard feature, along with roof clearance lights, tow hooks, and the option for heated glass and a spotter mirror on the telescoping trailer tow.

Interior Features
Nobody is going to mistake the interior of the F-550 for a luxury vehicle's inside, but that's the point - it's tough enough to handle the job while still providing a reasonable level of comfort and convenience. Highlights include map lights (to help examine paperwork and similar items when it's dark out), auxiliary power points, and four upfitter switches to pair with any aftermarket accessories that buyers may want to use.
Engine Features
This is by far the most important component of the F-550. The standard engine on the XL is a 6.8L, ten-cylinder, three-valve engine that provides up to 362 horsepower and 457 pounds of torque. The engine itself is fed from a large 40 gallon tank; even at their most efficient, working trucks like this one tend to have lower mileage than other vehicles, so the large tank is very helpful in allowing the F-550 to last long enough to get the job done.
The F-550 has many different options when it comes to the engine - the standard was covered above, but Ford also builds the F-550 with a diesel engine and a CNG/LPG compatible engine that can take in several different types of fuel. There are too many details to properly review here, so we highly recommend that anyone interested in purchasing an F-550 come down to our Mechanicsburg Ford dealership and talk with one of our in-house experts to figure out which model is most appropriate for your needs.
Options and Accessories
The F-550 has a variety of optional packages, including two appearance packages, enhanced front suspension, a snow plow prep package, two trailer tow packages, payload upgrade and downgrade packages, and even an ambulance prep package. Put together, these make the F-550 a highly customizable vehicle, helping match it to an individual's needs.
Conclusion
The 2015 F-550 is a large, powerful vehicle designed specifically to enable you to get your job done. Of course, there are several things that will have an impact on this. First, it's a cab, not a full vehicle - what you choose to install on the back of the vehicle will have an impact on overall performance, so you should try to keep that in mind when you're selecting the models. The various accessory packages can also feel like a negative to some buyers who would rather have everything installed already.
Outside of this, however, the F-550 is a capable vehicle intended for the modern work environment. Its three models are at the top of Ford's major Chassis Cab line, and the ongoing support for accessories is a major plus for people who have found that certain other products make their jobs easier. With the only serious flaws of the vehicle being common to its class (i.e. lower mileage when compared to smaller vehicles) or mainly a matter of perspective, there's nothing really worth dropping its score for. The F-550 gets an excellent 5/5 from us.
