The challenge for Ford when it was engineering the original C-MAX Hybrid was to compete with the Toyota Prius. Well, it seems that Ford has matched the original hybrid leader with its C-Max which has a lower price, a higher horsepower engine and higher fuel mileage as well. The
2013 Ford C-Max Energi takes that success to the next level. Ford has expanded the C-Max driving range by creating a hybrid car with a 20-mile range electric engine. The Prius Plug finally has a serious competitor.

Actually, the C-Max Energi is more than a competitor since the electric driving range in the Energi outstrips the Prius plug-in hybrid. Drivers can expect 20 miles on the road without ever transferring to the gas motor. This covers more of the commute, if not all of it, and allows 2013 C-Max Energi drivers to save money every day by avoiding the fuel-hogging of gas-powered urban stop-and-go driving. Drivers will be happy to put their foot down and feel the power without feeling any guilt about pollution. Zero emissions is the best way to reduce our carbon footprint.
The Energi also takes on the Volt and similar electrics. Unlike these competitors, the Energi has enough electric miles to cover most morning commutes but manages to provide a higher level of vehicle performance, handling, styling and size. There's almost 100 cubic feet in the C-Max which is comparable to the Prius. Families and commuters can fit more comfortably in the C-Max.
With more horsepower, the C-Max Energi handles the road more like a traditional car than a hybrid. With its stylish and sporty good looks, it tends to make the Prius look stuffy by comparison. Obviously, the C-Max Energi won't be able to take over the Prius overnight, but drivers will certainly appreciate a new and more powerful choice.
Coming on the heels of the successful launch of the C-Max Hybrid, the 2013 C-Max Energi should finally break the grip of the Prius on the plug-in market. True fuel economy can be matched with performance, and the C-Max Energi is destined to prove it.
